A few months ago I took my son to the doctors for his 4 year check up. I mentioned that his snoring seemed to be getting uncharacteristically loud. He's always snored but lately his snoring has been waking him up. The doctor wanted to try giving him Claritin to see if he had developed allergies.
The Claritin did nothing to help his snoring so we were referred over to an Ear, Nose and Throat doctor.
When we went there the Dr told me it would be best to get his tonsils removed. His tonsils are huge. The Dr said because his tonsils are so big he can't get a good nights sleep. Something to do with him having to be awake enough to keep his tonsils clear of his airway.
As I left the dr I was feeling pretty confident. My son has had two surgeries for his teeth before so I wasn't that nervous about the anesthesia. And the doctor made this tonsillectomy seem pretty easy. And I had time to brace myself and my son for what was coming up.
Nope wrong about the time. The doctors office called a few days later to set it up. So his surgery is in a week and I'm kind of panicking with everything that I need to do to be prepared. Get Popsicles. Make sure I have lots of Tylenol. Get movies together. Coloring books. Make sure someone is around to watch my nephew so Zane isn't wanting to be up and about playing with him. The list goes on and on.
To help me be prepared I've been doing research on tonsillectomies and now I'm getting scared. Some people's kids are up constantly at night screaming from the pain. Some kids won't eat. Some wont take their pain meds.
I hope this wont turn into a nightmare for my boy.
